Sam's Ford Garage - 1932 Ford 5 Window Coupe - Start of a Hot Rod Build
Bought running Flathead motor with original Ardun heads.
History of Motor -
- 1952 Bill Smith of PA bought heads from Ardun Mechanical Corp. in New York City, run by Zora Arkus Duntov.
- Heads installed on a 1952 Ford and driven for several years.
- Heads were then removed and stored for many years.
- Smith sold heads to friend Lynn Paxton of York Springs PA.
- In the 1980s A&G rebuilt a Flathead motor with 4" Mercury crank. The Ardun heads were installed on
that motor and the motor was installed in a T-Bodied Track Sprint Roadster.
Lynn used the car for demonstrations and shows. It was pictured in several magazines.
- Lynn later sold the car body to one party and the motor with the Ardun heads was sold to Radir Wheels in North Jersey, where the motor
was stored in a heated garage for several years.
- I bought the motor in September 2009

Found 3x2 manifold off of an Allard Ardun head motor. 5 piece Ardun manifold with original chromes 97's.
- Located a 1932 5-window Coupe body and chassis with a lot of parts missing. The search for parts will begin.
This project will not be a fast one. I would like to have it completed in 3 years.
7/5/10 - Hot Rod Build part 2 -
Temporarily installed motor, transmission and body for a mock-up and to check clearances and measurements. Bought and installed radiator
and checked clearances and alignment. Checked firewall and motor clearance, rear wheels and wheel well alignment. Took measurements
for torque tube and drive shaft.
A big addition to the build is a set of 4 Kinmont brakes. Here the brakes are mounted but the lines will not be run until
the body is removed and the frame is painted. The Kinmonts and other changes will set the build back about 1 year. My target
finish date is 11-1-13
11/10/10 - Hot Rod Build part 3 -
Added fenders, running boards and gas tank to check fits and clearances before final work on frame and drive train.
